Labour market forecast
What will the coming decade be like in the Öresund region? Will more jobs be created? What educations will these jobs require? For example, will there be a lack in the educated labour force in the future? These are some of the questions that the project "Jobs and competence in Öresund Region" attempts to answer with forecasts for the Öresund region up to the year 2020.
This serves to complement the Öresund Trends project’s in-depth and detailed documentation of how the first ten years have been in the Öresund region.
Slowly on the way out of the crisis
According to the forecast, the present development is expected to change in 2010 and both Öresund SE and Öresund DK will experience cautious economic growth in the coming four years and a weak increase in employment. As of 2014, economic development is expected to be on the right track again, as it was before the financial crisis. By 2016 employment in Öresund SE and Öresund DK, all else being equal, should be at the same level as it was before the financial crisis affected the global economy in 2008. As of 2015, the shortage of labour force with the right competence will risk becoming an obstacle for continued growth.
Increased employment in Öresund SE and the Capital Region of Denmark
By the year 2020, another 29 000 jobs in Öresund SE and 43 000 jobs in the Capital Region of Denmark are expected to be created, while Region Zealand would experience a decrease of 13 500 jobs. Thus total employment it is expected to increase by approximately 60 000 jobs and a total of 1.89 million employed persons in the Öresund region on the whole.

Thus Öresund SE is expected to continue the strong development and employment that has gone on since the year 2000, when the Öresund Bridge was opened. Since the bridge was opened and up to the year 2008, approximately 54 000 more jobs were created in Öresund SE. While in all of Öresund DK, where there are twice as many inhabitants, 43 500 jobs were created.
