Forecasts show that the need for untrained labour will drop in the entire Öresund region while the demand for vocationally trained labour or highly educated labour will increase. The figures on the next pages show the expected development in the number of workplaces broken down by the level of education up until 2024 in parts of Öresund SE(2) and all of Öresund DK.

Increase in percentage of highly educated persons and students
The percentage of the population (aged 25-64) in the Öresund region higher education has increased by nine percentage points from 23.4 percent in 1998 to 32.6 percent in 2007. The largest increase of 13 percent in the last 10 years has occurred in The Capital Region of Denmark - and increase exceeds the national level in both Denmark and Sweden.
That tendency that the share of highly educated persons is concentrated is a well-known phenomenon in many big cities where not only institutes of higher education but also knowledge-based companies are attractive. As illustrated in the table below, trends for students from 1998 to 2007 were positive in general.
